Looks like the damage from the Japanese Earthquake is still not over! This article explains that this disaster will effects not only the individuals over in Japan, but also many industries here in the United States. Film, Television, Automobile manufacturers, and even various contractors are searching for many parts that are essential to many products today. Companies like Sony are having trouble locating other plans that construct small but essential pieces of equipment.
How is this going to impact the price of technology? Could this possibly cause an issue for implementing technology into the classroom?
It is so funny because about 100 years ago, an earthquake in Japan would have little impact on the people of the United States. Now we have to worry about so much. The effect that radiation could be having in the air here, fish in the sea and the soil and agriculture of things we buy from there. I hadn't even begun to think about the effect this earthquake was having on technology. I'm sure that this will be somewhat of a problem, for those who are looking to buy new things. I heard it was impacting people who wanted the new ipad because important parts couldn't be made, but most of all it will probably effect the price of things.
ReplyDeleteThis falls directly into the law of supply and demand! The price of technology is sure to increase. I think there will be an issue when implementing technology into the classroom but it won't be as drastic of a change like it will be for other businesses. There are alternate forms of technology that can be used in place of the ones made in Japan!
ReplyDeleteCoach, excellent Economics reference. Supply and demand is exactly what the issue is here. WIth Japan producing so much with regards to the technology world, production is sure to be put on hold or at least decreased significantly. Therefore, whatever continues to come out of Japan will surely be more expensive, and may prevent schools from purchasing them because it may not fit into the school budget. However, this may provide us an opportunity to better master certain technologies we have and already use, but may not use to their full potential. Just because of the crisis in Japan we will certainly not be at a loss for technology.
ReplyDeleteThis will definietly play a role with the price of technology. Infact the price of technology will go up like Michelle said. And that being said will that play a role in classrooms upgrading their technology. I believe it will definietly play a huge role especially if the schools are on a strict budget.
